Moorcourt Farm Visit

Yesterday, Dosbarth Un had a fantastic visit to Moorcourt Farm to learn all about farming and growing. The learners had an exciting day exploring the growing process of strawberries, raspberries, cherries and apples. They were able to see the different growing stages and also the machinery and vehicles used on the farm. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Moorcourt Farm for hosting such an engaging and educational workshop, it is greatly appreciated.

Recycling Batteries

The learners within the Eco-Committee are delighted to announce that three full boxes of used batteries have been successfully sent off for recycling. Thank you to everyone who contributed by bringing in their used batteries. Please continue to support this initiative by bringing these in – every contribution makes a difference!

No Mow May

Today, Dosbarth Un engaged in a ‘No Mow May’ workshop led by Eco-Schools Wales and Plantlife Cymru, delving into the significance and benefits of plant life and wildflowers. This campaign encourages individuals and communities to leave their lawns uncut during May to support biodiversity and provide habitats for pollinators like bees and butterflies. The learners actively participated throughout the workshop, showing great enthusiasm and answering questions thoughtfully. They were also excited to think about how they could contribute in their own gardens and school grounds.

Jack and the Beanstalk

Last week, Dosbarth Un began exploring the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We started by listening carefully to the story and then worked together in groups to describe the main characters. After that, we used story maps to help us sequence the main events of the tale. Watch this space to discover whatโ€™s coming next in our learning about the story!

The Easter Story

The learners in Dosbarth Un have been exploring the Easter story and why some people celebrate Easter. As part of this, they planted their own sunflowers to take home to symbolise new life and decorated their pots with pictures representing new beginnings. We also talked about how to take care of the sunflowers to help them grow healthy.

Chemical Reactions

Learners in Dosbarth Un have been exploring states of matter and how particles in solids, liquids, and gases differ. They acted out these states using their bodies to help visualise these. They then conducted an experiment by mixing bicarbonate soda and vinegar to observe the reaction. The learners made predictions about what might happen and later discussed the chemical reaction they witnessed, explaining the reasons behind it.

Chemical Changes

This week, learners in Dosbarth Un have continued learning about physical and chemical reactions. They listened to the story ‘Let’s Bake a Cake’ and then had the opportunity to bake a cake together to explore the different changes that occur during the baking process. The learners led some excellent discussions throughout.

Beat and Rhythm

Learners in Dosbarth Un have been learning about beat and rhythm in their Expressive Arts lessons. This week, they worked in pairs and used their previous learning to create their own rhythms with the claves. They expressed likes and dislikes throughout the process and focused on creating a rhythm that was cohesive and engaging. The learners worked particularly hard to follow their rhythm grids carefully and maintain an appropriate pace to stay in time with each other. They then performed their rhythms to the class, and together, they created a whole-class rhythm chain. Bendigedig pawb!

Top Brass Trio

Dosbarth Un had an inspiring opportunity this week to engage in a live musical concert led by the Top Brass Trio. The learners not only discovered a range of facts about brass instruments but also explored basic conducting skills.
