Materials

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have started learning about materials. This week the learners have worked hard to identify and compare different materials and they have thought of a variety of adjectives, such as hard, shiny, soft, rough and cold to describe these. They have worked in groups to decide how to sort some objects, for example some learners chose to sort them into smooth or bumpy. We also sorted the objects into the different materials they are made from; wood, fabric, metal, glass, paper or plastic.

Pointillism

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have been learning about George Seurat. To begin with, the learners practised and experimented with using pointillism before moving onto creating their own final pieces of art linked to our theme of ‘rivers’. The learners have created some amazing artwork that they would like to share with you all!

Eco-Committee

The Eco-Committee are very pleased to announce that we have recycled another 14 bags of stretchy plastics over this academic year. Thank you to everyone for your help with this. We will continue to recycle stretchy plastics within the new academic year so please keep sending these in.

Floating and Sinking

As part of our learning of floating and sinking, Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have been exploring how boats float and have designed their own boat using junk materials. The learners thought carefully about which materials to use for the different features of their boat and explained their choices. They then followed their design to make their boat and tested it in the water to see if it floated or sunk. Following on from this, the learners have reflected upon their boat design using ‘Skitch’ on the iPad and have then added their improvements to re-test them, for example some learners recognised that cardboard needed to be replaced with a waterproof material as it went soggy and started to sink! Everyone did a great job throughout the mini project and there was some great thinking and reflecting going on, well done everyone!

Elan Valley Trip

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne had a great day at Elan Valley. We went on a minibeast sculpture hunt through the woods, went inside the dam and finished with a play at the park. We talked about why the dams are here and their history, why they are important and all about river animals.

Forest School

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have had great fun at Forest Schools today led by ‘Branching Out’. The learners engaged within a range of activities, such as making butterflies using a variety of tools and materials, den building and being imaginative within the mud kitchen. We were even lucky enough to have popcorn around the fire… yum yum!

Floating and Sinking

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have continued their learning of floating and sinking this week, exploring the question ‘Does shape matter?’ The learners carried out an experiment to see if they could make a ball of plasticine float by changing its shape. The learners showed excellent perseverance throughout this. Bendigedig Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne!

Forest School

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have been having great fun in their Forest School sessions led by Mrs Lingard. The learners have been making their own imaginative potions and this week they have been making their own paintbrushes and paint using natural resources. As you can see, the learners enjoyed getting messy!

River Animals

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have been learning about river animals and on our welly walk this week we decided to take a visit to the Harley Valley to see if we could find any for ourselves. We went on a wildlife hunt and used the magnifiers and identification sheets to name some of the tiny creatures living in the stream. We found lots of creatures, such as tadpoles, pond skaters and water spiders.
